Transition Policy

‘Orientation Week’ shall be recognised as the official commencement to the academic year for first year undergraduate students.

Each faculty shall identify the transition issues relevant to its student cohort and develop appropriate academic orientation activities and transition strategies.

Specification of academic orientation programs and/or appropriate first year curricula is a requirement for undergraduate course approval.

Each faculty shall provide academic orientation/induction programs for graduate students.

Each faculty shall be proactive by developing procedures for early identification and appropriate action for students at risk of exclusion on the basis of poor academic performance.

Purpose

The objective of this policy is to identify and provide for the needs of incoming students such as through relevant academic orientation programs.

Scope

This policy applies to all undergraduate courses.

Definitions

'transition' - the adjustment, development and change experienced when progressing to university study.

orientation’ the first public interface between students and the University, orientation is the initial step in the transition process.

Academic Board shall consider this policy for review three years after approval, or earlier if required.
