Educational Technology Procedures

Please note that these procedures have not yet been revised or converted to the new format .

Deans are requested to include in their faculty operational plans their vision of the use of educational technology in their faculty, and the means by which they will achieve it.

Faculties shall provide an equivalent to SMURF grants focussed on educational technology in order to allow Heads of Departments to compensate for staff who are preparing educational technology based material and therefore unable to carry out other duties.

A key element in measuring the success of the educational technology based projects shall be the tests for effectiveness. Evaluation should be undertaken by the Higher Education Development Unit to determine whether students have mastered subjects which involve web based resources in the same way as questionnaires about subjects and their lecturers are designed and the results analysed.

Faculties shall assist staff by hiring web authors who can both implement the ideas of the staff and teach staff to use the web effectively.

Mixes of Web, CD_ROM, tutorials, laboratories, field trips and lectures shall be trialed to ensure that optimum learning is achieved.
